How did you get started in modeling?
I enjoyed taking pictures and it became a hobby. I could escape my everyday non glamourous life to become whoever I wanted. Eventually, people started taking notice and opportunities presented themselves to bring me to where I am today.
You were recently featured in the most recent Smooth Girl Rookie issue, what was that experience like?
Exciting as this was my first pictorial with interview. I had been submitting my pictures to the publisher for about a year without response. One day she replied back and I found myself in NY shortly after that. The Smooth team made me feel comfortable and everyone was really nice.
Tell about being apart of BET’s 2008 Rip The Runway?
Well … it was hectic and cold since it was taped in Manhattan in March. I participated in the 2007 Rip the Runway as well and the 2008 show was run completely different than the 2007 show. This year I walked for Snoop Dogg’s wife’s line, Co co ri. If anyone saw the show, I had big curly hair wearing a tropical green dress carrying a dog. The making of the show was a total adrenline rush. There was always a lot going on, celebrities walking around, etc.
How did you get selected to be one of the Coors Light centerfolds in King Magazine last year?
King-mag.com had a contest where models submitted pictures and voters would vote for the girls every week and then later the semi-finalist. There were 4 of us selected. The rest is history.
I’ve gotta ask…is there anything in Orlando besides Disney World and Ozone Magazine??
Well it depends on what you like to do. Orlando is a tourist attraction so we have the usual theme parks, restaurants galore, clubs, and shopping ranging from designer to outlets. I’ve lived in Orlando for 8 years so I’d say “not, really” but people come year after year so there has to be something.
How was it when people started to recognize you in public?
I don’t know if people recognize me in public {laughs} and if they do, they don’t say anything. I can tell you that when people (club promoters, magazine publishers, etc) started requesting to work with me, it was unreal. I still don’t believe it.
What parts of your body are you most complimented on?
{Smiles} I would say my eyes. I hear about that most often but I think my butt or legs would come in close second.
What parts do I need to compliment you on to have a chance?
{Laughs} I don’t know about compliments but the best way to get at me, is for a guy to be himself and have patience. I like to get to know a person. Then when I’m into them, they’ll know.
Lets say I see you out and I know “this may be my chance”…what can I do not to f’ it all up?
Just have confidence, not to be confused with cockiness or arrogance. Just talk to me and don’t try too hard. If we are vibin’, it will happen on its own.
What are your biggest assets as a model?
My drive. Few ladies realize that modeling is a business and your product is your image. Even if you have a manager, they can’t be everywhere, doing everything, all the time. This industry is very much about networking and to make new relationships you have to have a pleasant personality. The business is much more than great looks and a nice body.
Are we going to be getting a website from you soon?
Yes, as many of my long time fans know, I have been working on my site for some time now. I didn’t realize how much work it takes to even get one up! I suppose good things come to those who wait so I think it will be a real treat for those who have stuck it out with me. A lot of people mention how models get these sites and don’t update them and I noticed that myself looking around at some of the big names in the industry. Well my site (www. KaylanaReese. com) is my baby and a way I can have fun and entertain on a personal level. For the members. I want to push the envelope but still keep it classy. There are no plans for nudity (only implied) so I have to be a little more creative to keep up with and surpass my competition who are willing to take it all off.
I read this vicious, ugly rumor that you’re retiring from glamour modeling…even before we got a chance to shoot you for The Dynasty Series. Why are you breaking our hearts?
For the past year and a half, I have been going hard trying to get into this magazine and that. Although I enjoy the end result when things pan out for me, it is very demanding and stressful. As we all know, there is an ugly side to this industry. I’ve considered retiring from glamour all together but I love creating new work too much to do that just yet. I think I will focus my energy on my website. I’m also looking into other types of modeling and other markets. I don’t think I could stop completely. This is in me. When I’m not fit to be in front of the camera, I will be behind it {smiles}.
